Brow Perfection!!

When I was in High school I had an accident that involved my slamming into an emergency exit door (the really big metal ones). This further resulted in my getting three stitches along the line of my right eyebrow... (Yes, it hurt!)

I managed to deal with the pain of the injury but what I couldn't bear was my new found eyebrow patch... (it looks similar to this) I thought my world had come to end. This was almost as bad as the time when I made my hair fall out, but that's another story!

Since then, I have been in search of the perfect eyebrow pencil to not only shade in my eyebrows but also to draw in the nonexistent hairs that have vanished since my fatal 'Brow' accident.

Australia - Movie Review

Huge Moulin Rouge fan that I am, when Baz Luhrmann decided to team up with Nicole Kidman again for Australia, I thought I would have another movie to add to my favorites list.
Unfortunately, not so much.

Alicia was good enough to humor me, and sit through this long ass piece of work, and I think she would co-sign my review...
While the movie was not terrible, it was not entertaining enough to warrant it's 3 hour run time. A lot of subject matter was covered in those 3 hours, and while some of those themes were interesting, the treatment of Aborigine and "half-caste" people in Australia for example, much of it was not.
An entire 1:30 is dedicated to cattle droving! That's like full length film...about bulls...yeah...
The cattle droving certainly has a place in the film, but it's a lot to sit through waiting for something to happen.

I guess I was most disappointed because I've grown accustomed to a certain style of film from Luhrmann, his movies are majestic, love stories of a bygone era with a post-modern adrenaline shot. Australia had it's moments, but overall it just lacked that movie magic.

Labels or Designers? Which of the two draws you in to spend the big bucks?

Last week, I was perusing the racks in the alice & olivia store on 40th street between 5th and 6th. I found a few lovely dresses and tops and as I was making my way to the dressing room to try them on, the sales person stopped me and offered to take my things to a room. I happened to look down @ her booties and thought that they looked rather cute and comfortable and that they complemented her outfit well. I of course asked where she bought them and she told me that they were designed by Stacey Bendet who is the designer for alice & olivia. I immediately turned around to see if there was another section of the store that I had overlooked and the sales person just smiled and said "you aren't going to find them here, because we don't sell shoes; not yet @ least."

Needless, to say I was confused. Finally she stopped her incessant laughter and told me that I could get a pair for only $48 dollars @ a place that I wouldn't guess.

PAYLESS

I was floored! I know that many stores have been soliciting the help of established designers to come in and revamp their line or to design an additional line for them to increase sales and bring variety. Like H & M, and Target, it seems that Payless has jumped on the band wagon.

Stacey Bendet's designs were released in about 400 payless stores, and you can also find her designs online @ the payless website.

I like the grey ones, they are the ones that the sales attendant was wearing. Would any of you buy a pair? Or, is the purpose of purchasing designer labels a way to separate the elite from the working/lower class; and to obtain bragging rights? If that's the case then, IMO that's ridiculous... one should buy shoes because they like/love them not because of the label. I understand that certain labels you can trust in terms of fit and a guaranteed long lasting effect, but you have to try something once to know that you don't like it,right?

Remember, it's a recession y'all, you better act like you know :)

Makeup Forever High Definition Powder

Avy and I are mind melding today, because I just bought something from the Makeup Forever HD line yesterday. I usually don't wear liquid foundation, just concealer, and either translucent or colored powder. So I only got the High Definition powder. Its translucent, and it's supposed to be for all skin tones, but seems to me as if it may come across ashy if you have darker skin.

Maybe I'm not getting the full effect since I'm not using the full set of primer, foundation and powder, but I'm not super impressed. Its a nice powder, but I don't think it makes me look better than any other powder. I could have swept baby powder over my face and gotten similar results as far as the way it looks.
It feels great though! Very, very finely milled and silky, my skin feels great and its very light, as if I'm not wearing anything. Also my skin tends to get oily and shiny and I think its cut down on that so far.

Here's a camera phone pic of me today. I'm wearing Fresh Absolute Concealer under my eyes, and the HD powder all over my face.
I'm also wearing MAC blush in Sunbasque, MAC lipglass in Cultureclash and Bare Escentuals eyeshadows in Bubbly and Drama. I know, a whole lot of nothing, right?

Alicia Needs To Get Out Of My Head.

Alicia and I are having similar thoughts today!
I was recently thinking about doing a post about Solange and why it's so difficult for her to find her space in the entertainment industry. She IS a bit different, with her getting married and knocked up at 18, then divorcing shortly thereafter. Beyonce would never, because she's a man-made machine. (have you seen her perform?) And I just watched the video Alicia posted and Solange said FUCK! ooohhh, I would pay good money to hear Beyonce say fuck, but I don't think its in her programming.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of Solange's work thus far, and I decided Part 1 is no exception. It gets some play on "urban stations and networks" but personally, I find it boring. So I was watching The N the other day, (yeah I watch Degrassi and what?) and they played I Decided part 2. Wow! what a difference a track makes! I think if Part 2 got they airtime that Part 1 does, she might actually have something. I'm not sure which version Alicia was referring to liking, but I'll post both here so everyone can make thier decisions.

Restaurant Review

Hello All,

I had the most fantastic lunch yesterday, it was simply delectable. A few coworkers and I took advantage of Manhattan’s Restaurant week, and it was a day to remember. We dined @ Asia de Cuba, here’s the link for your viewing pleasure Check it Out.
As the name suggests, the food was a mixture of Asia and Cuban cuisines. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the perks of restaurant week, I’ll give you a brief explanation. Restaurant week is a time when a myriad of restaurants cut the price of a selection of their dishes. Three course Prix-Fixe Dinning where lunch is $24.07 and Dinner is $35.00.

At Asia de Cuba, the ambiance was relaxing and the crowd was trendy. The food was delicious and my coworkers and I enjoyed it immensely. Here’s what we had, we started with the calamari salad, and lemongrass skewered chicken. We then moved on to the Charred Beef Ribs which I have to say was simply exquisite; I could have died and gone to heaven right then We also had the BBQ Cuban chicken with coconut sticky Rice and Guacamole; the sticky rice was flavorful and easy on the taste buds. Lastly, we had the coconut cake which was to die for, along with the sorbet of three different exotic flavors. Just imagine, all of this for $24.07… Now! That’s my kind of deal.
