Who Wore It Best? Ciara VS. Kim K.

Kim Kardashian and Ciara both wear a dress from Carven's Fall 2010 line. Kim in Paris, Sept. 16th, Ciara in NYC Oct. 25th.

Damn! Down to the shoes and everything! I honestly want to hand this one to Ciara, as a curvy girl myself I know sometimes all that ruffle and poof just makes you look a bit too "fluffy".
However, Something inside me just won't allow me to let Ciara to get away with this one...even the same shoes? A month and a half later? They're friends, they hang out! She should have damn well known what this would look like!
I'm all for sharing a deal with a friend, but they don't need deals, and this is the red carpet we're talking about. I'm saying, what part of the game is scrap collecting? Pure chickenheadry. The dress isn't even that hot to be digging through your homegirls salvation army bags like that.

Kim, you win this round.

Mean Green Cleaning Solutions.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I'm not much of a resolution maker, but it is important to always aim to be a better version of oneself. Not only year by year but day by day.

I am relatively late to the environmental protection party, and I am by no means the "The Queen Of Green" but I do believe that every little bit helps. If I can make a difference in the world by doing something as simple as telling the guy at my local deli that "No, I really don't need a bag for a pack of gum." you better believe I'm going to do it.

With that said, be aware of how damaging many household detergents and cleansers are to the environment. Every time you scrub the sink or do a load of laundry, you are sending all of those toxins down the drain and into the water.
Or, if saving the world doesn't do it for you, think about saving yourself. That fresh clean laundry smell (which is my personal favorite smell BTW) isn't ocean breeze, it's the smell of a possible endocrinology issue starting. Yes, many household cleansers contain ingredients known to cause reproductive, and/or endocrine issues, as well as cancer.

So for the New Year I'll be trying a few new cleaning methods out. I've heard good things about Nellie's Laundry Nuggets. (Why is the word nugget so funny?)

Available at NelliesAllNatural.com
36 Loads for $9.99
60 Loads $14.99.

Or maybe saving money is a better incentive for you, try these $ savers around the house.

You can use vinegar or club soda in a spray bottle in place of glass cleaners

Baking Soda can be used in place of your scrubbing products. Mix it with vinegar, lemon juice, or my personal fave, Dr. Bronners All Natural Soap to make a good scrubby paste.

Dr. Bronners can also be used for dishwashing, laundry detergent, and various other household and body cleansing. Stock up at DrBronner.com, buying on the website is way cheaper than what I see in stores.

For '09, don't just toast to health, do something about it!

Thumbs Down!

We're about 3 weeks into this blog, and I've just realized that we haven't done a single negative post!
I guess this is kind of good...I mean, who would want to read lists of things they shouldn't buy? But on the other hand, some warning is nice when you're considering spending your hard earned money on a product that may be complete crap.
So, here are a couple products I've bought recently that I would never recommend to a friend.

Redken All Soft

Not soft AT ALL. Like the kind of dry and tangled that even your fave conditioner can't smooth. I had heard good things about the scent too...Puh-leaze, smells like a whole lot of nothing.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray

Sticky, crunchy, everything you don't want your hairspray to be. Do not buy.

Oh! Well That Explains Everything....

When Charles Barkley was busted in Arizona early this morning for DUI, he told cops he ran a stop sign because he was in a hurry to get some oral sex.

According to the officer who wrote the report, "He told me that he ran the stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up the girl I saw get in the passenger seat."

The officer continues: "He asked me to admit that she was 'hot.' He asked me, 'You want the truth?' When I told him I did he said, 'I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b**w job. He then explained that she had given him a 'b**w job' one week earlier and said it was the best one he had ever had in his life."

The report says when Barkley was taken to the station, he told one of the employees, "I'll tattoo my name on your ass" if he helped "get him out of the DUI." According to the report, "He laughed and then quickly corrected himself and said, 'I'll tattoo your name on my ass' and then laughed again."

The report also says officers "found a handgun in the vehicle" which was immediately impounded. The report doesn't say if the handgun was legal or not, and the only thing that we know for sure was loaded...

-TMZ

You know when you just look at someones face and it turns your stomach? Charles Barkley looks like the biggest gaping asshole that ever breathed air. Ugh. He is so gross to me.

Who The Heck Is Lady Gaga?

Christina Aguilera

Lady Gaga

Christina Aguilera

Lady Gaga

I've been hearing the name for a few months now, probably since Aug/Sep whenever the MTV awards were. Christina Aguilera did her thing on the "Genie In A Bottle 2.0" performance, but all you heard about the next day was how much of her new look she stole from Lady Gaga. Personally, I hate that look. That blunt bang on a platinum blond just rubs me the wrong way, so as far as I was concerned if she had stolen the look she should hurry up and give that shit back, ASAP!

Judging from the pictures above there may be some truth to that story. However, I'm a firm believer that there is very little new under the sun. Everything was influenced by something else, and there is nothing wrong with that. Ideally, artists would sprinkle a touch of originality and ingenuity on their work, but kids today think originality is some kind of plague or ancient torture device. Either that, or Xerox is the new original, I don't know.

Anyway, now this Lady Gaga person has hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her song "Just Dance" and I still don't know who she is! The top 5 includes Beyonce, T.I. feat Rihanna, Kanye, Britney...and this Lady Gaga is hanging with the big boys!

I'm going to listen to her song now, then we "Cawfee Tawk"

*sigh* Good news first: Under the auto-tune she sounds like she may have a very nice voice.
Bad news: I couldn't even get through the song, it was just weak. This particular tune, I'm sure will not grow on me, because I didn't like HER. She actually reminds me more of an Aubrey O'Day type...her moves and lyrics just say skeezer to me. Why would I want to go out and dance to a song about being a drunk yamp.
Sorry Lady Gaga, thumbs down.

The Plumber Who Cried Wolf.

Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher alleges that while on the campaign trail, McCain made him feel "dirty"

Think Progress reports that Joe Wurzelbacher isn't a huge fan of the man who made him famous. He told conservative radio host Glenn Beck that he felt "dirty" after "being on the campaign trail and seeing some of the things that take place."

"I honestly felt even more dirty after I had been on the campaign trail and seen some things that take place. It was scary, man," Wurzelbacher said. He told Beck he asked McCain "some pretty direct questions" about the bailout, and wasn't pleased with the response. "They appalled me, absolutely. You know, I was angry. In fact, I wanted to get off the bus after I talked to him.

Asked why he didn't leave McCain's campaign if he was "appalled" by the candidate, Wurzelbacher said, "Honestly, because the thought of Barack Obama as president scares me even more."

While Wurzelbacher was critical of McCain, he gushed about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. "Sarah Palin is absolutely the real deal," he said.
You know, I only got to spend a short amount of time with her but, you know, it was been asked if I felt any presence when I was with John McCain or Barack Obama. You know, with Sarah Palin, I don't want to say I felt a presence but she definitely had energy and she definitely went to work for American people, and it disgusts me on how often they try to bash her just for her sincerity. It's just, you know, she really wants to work for America and I mean, I wish people would listen to her and let them, and let her work for us. You know, she wants to serve us. She's not looking for power.

-Thehuffingtonpost.com

Joe Wurzelbacher has been consistently whoring himself out to any media outlet that would listen for the past few months. Now he wants to claim that McCain made him feel "dirty"?
Joe, you reek of desperation, and I dont like the funk. 14:53 and counting! Think of something to say, Joe. Anything!
But Palin is the "real deal", riiiight...
Looking for a spot on the 2012 campaign, Joe? If Palin ever comes to close to winning the Presidency, lets go ahead and make Joe the VP, might as well go out with a bang.

Cant you just see it now? Flannel shirts and six-packs for everyone!

The New (Weak) 90210

Are you watching the new 90210? Maybe you're thinking "Hell no! Why would I watch that?" But I can still enjoy a good teen drama. Did we outgrow liking a good boyfriend-stealing-followed-by-slapfest? I didn't.

Well, I've flipped past once or twice and this ish looked boring as hell. It doesn't appear to have the excitement or originality of...the original, 90210 was the first of its kind, you have to give it props. Nor does it have the "sheer fuckery factor". You know, when you're watching a show and you're like OMG, I cannot believe the fuckery they just put on my eyeballs. I'd like that too. I like to fill my ignorance quota at home, so I don't have to go out and get ignorant on my cab driver, because I will. If you don't know, now you know.

I'm only disappointed because I had high hopes for this show due to the casting of two characters from two of my current favorite shows, Nip/Tuck and Degrassi. If you don't watch those shows you may not know, but there should have been several incidents of weave pulling and sexual misadventures. Like, between these two broads, someone should have gotten ruphied, done an S&M porno on webcam, emailed it around school to gain funds for new cheerleading uniforms, ended up getting pregnant as a result, sold the baby, and tried to poison someone to death. So I just want you to feel me when I say not only is this 90210 weak, but in light of what other shows do with these actors it's complete trash.

These clips are from Nip/Tuck which is obviously an "adult" show, and an outlandish one at that. AnnaLynne McCord (new Kelly Taylor?) plays Eden Lord, current bad girl in a string of many. She is not at all safe for work.

Degrassi is a teen drama out of Canada. It started in the 80's, and was revived in 2001 as Degrassi: The Next Generation. Shenae Grimes (new Brenda Walsh) plays Darcy.
The scenes here are definitely not as scandalous as the Nip/Tuck ones, plus all the youtube vids I came across were montages with stupid songs. But you get the point.

Fox News Continues Their Campaign For An "Idiocracy".

Fox News Referring to Michelle Obama as Obama's Baby Mama.

Sarah Palin took to Fox News(where else?)to explain why she couldn't answer the simplest of questions during her interview with Katie Couric. Apparently Couric's line of questioning was "annoying" to Palin, so annoying she couldn't even recall what newspapers she's ever read. Now that she's been prepared for that question, she remembered to say The Economist among others. I hope she got a cookie for that.
Why would anyone want to elect a person campaigning on a platform of cultural anti-intellectualism? Running a country has nothing to do with hockey or beer!

Fox News is disgusting. How and why, they managed to pull together some of the most vile, bottom feeding, hatred spewing creatures to ever call themselves "Journalists" is unfathomable. This is beyond Republican or Democrat, right or left wing. Foulness of this magnitude is unacceptable, and should not be allowed on a major "news" outlet.

Thumbs Down!

It's that time again! Here are two beauty products that I told you guys I would try, and that I've ended up disappointed with.

Givenchy Phenomen'eyes: I was so excited to finally try this, but I found the formula to be brittle and flaky. My eyelashes felt really hard and stiff, and I felt as though I had something in my eye all day, flakes from the mascara I presume. Furthermore, that little brush is completely stupid! They really got me with that foolishness, I cant even explain how ridiculous and time consuming that little thing is.

Laura Mercier Undercover Pot: I guess I cant even completely knock this product, it may be great for some people. Unfortunately, I was unable to try Laura Mercier's Undercover Pot, because it only comes in two shades, and the darkest one was still too light for me. I try to stay away from MAC sometimes, but that's just the kind of thing that makes you want to support that company, just the fact that they acknowledge the range of skin tones people come in. So as much as I would have liked to give Laura Mercier my money, they made me unable to do so. So eff them.

'WTF'of the Week/MTV Awards

I saw bits and pieces of the MTV awards and I didn't like it. Poor Russel Brand looked as if he was going to get eaten alive by the American audience. Anyway, not only was the show mediocre the outfit choices of some of the guests seemed poorly choosen and to be frank they looked hideous. I think I would have to say that I porbably liked Britney Spears' look the most. It was just simple and not over done. I also liked Rihanna's performance outfit. Here they are

Below are a few of the looks that left me puzzled; see if you can make any sense of them.

That's your MTV Fashion Round Up.

More Sophisticated Substitutes!

Ugh...

Okay, I have to be honest with you guys. One of my biggest pet peeves is the type of dressing that is depicted in the pictures above. I absolutely detest seeing people in gorgeous outfits then taking a look @ their feet and seeing the way in which they've destroyed a perfectly good ensemble. Take the first two pictures for instance, I am constantly reminded of this at work or en route to work. I see people on the train and in the streets with perfectly good outfits on, then they destroy it by wearing sneakers. I am all about comfort, but I'd prefer to look comfortably stylish as opposed to being apart of the "Fashion Gone Wrong Crowd. " Sneakers can easily be replaced with chic flats that provide ease without taking away from your outfit.
The young lady in the third picture is donning one my least favorite things, those darn rubber slippers/flip flops. They are such an eye sore. They do nothing for the outfit, they make funny noises and they just look all wrong. IMO, they are only fit to be worn in the house or to the pool. There are several flat sandals that can be worn which are more fashionable and undoubtedly deliver the same level of comfort. You guys are probably thinking I'm insane maybe so, but to be frank, I'm just passionate about the idea of trying to maintain your look all day. We try to do just that with our makeup, why not do it with our clothing?
Granted, heels begin to take a toll after a while, so what I do and what I'm suggesting is to purchase several nice pairs of flats in neutral colors... i.e. (black, gray, beige) then bring a fitting pair along to change into after a long day of work/play. This way your outfit still looks pulled together, minus the slight discomfort that you may have begun experiencing in your heels.

Here are a few flats that I recommend:

Sam EdelmanSam EdelmanAlex Marie "Tempo"Gianni Bini "Ginger"Old NavyASOS Shoes
ASOS Shoes(if you are into the gladiator look)

I think that all of these are better than sneakers and rubber flip flops...don't you agree... side eye* for the gladiator sandals but if that's your thing, then hey! You can find these shoes at Asos, Oldnavy, and Lord and Taylor. If you have any trouble let me know.

Who Worked it Best?

I am someone who definitely respects and appreciates individuality, however this dress right here is a NO GO for me. Victoria Beckham is hailed by few as a fashion Guru, nevertheless, I find her style mediocre at best. Sometimes she has hit's, more times than not she slips. I personally think that these two choices are the latter.

From the front this white dress looks perfectly fine, then she turns around and were hit with a birds nest.

Maybe she was intending on flying to heaven... IDK
This black all in one jumpsuit could be a nice look but some how it just does not look well executed on her body. She does not have the necessary proportions to make this look work IMO. Here is a pic of Sanaa Lathan wearing a similar jumpsuit and executing it much better.

Sanaa has a better body for this jumpsuit, however, I wish she had accentuated the bodice of this piece with a belt or something that would provide a smoother more curvy shape. In the pic below Jennifer Hudson is wearing the same piece and I believe that she executes it the best of all three. Click on all pics to enlarge

Comme des Garcons For H&M. I Can Wait.

Comme des Garcons is the latest in a string of high end designers to create a collection for H&M. Seasons past have brought Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and more to make wildly popular pieces for the Swedish clothing company. These collections are highly coveted, sell out extremely fast, and they are, in my opinion, consistently awful. The Comme des Garcons line looks like the perfect wardrobe for when you decide to become a hobo. Just grab your banjo and hop a freight train to greener pastures. Don't even look at me though, I'm not giving you a quarter.

I would think  at least 1 reason that a celebrated design house decides to collaborate with a store like H&M is because they sincerely want to bring their aesthetic to more affordable clothing. But from what I've seen it's never the same. Take these pieces from the Comme des Garcons Fall 2008 show.

Yeah... they're runway, so they're weird as hell, I know. But aren't they infinitely more interesting than the H&M stuff? Don't they make you go "Hmm, how could I work this?" Whereas the H&M stuff just makes me say "Ew, Yuckola."

I'm not the biggest H&M fan anyway, whenever I'm in there I just feel like I'm staring at rows and rows of oatmeal and it makes me so sleepy. They're great for underwear though.
