Restaurant Review

Hello All,

I had the most fantastic lunch yesterday, it was simply delectable. A few coworkers and I took advantage of Manhattan’s Restaurant week, and it was a day to remember. We dined @ Asia de Cuba, here’s the link for your viewing pleasure Check it Out.
As the name suggests, the food was a mixture of Asia and Cuban cuisines. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the perks of restaurant week, I’ll give you a brief explanation. Restaurant week is a time when a myriad of restaurants cut the price of a selection of their dishes. Three course Prix-Fixe Dinning where lunch is $24.07 and Dinner is $35.00.

At Asia de Cuba, the ambiance was relaxing and the crowd was trendy. The food was delicious and my coworkers and I enjoyed it immensely. Here’s what we had, we started with the calamari salad, and lemongrass skewered chicken. We then moved on to the Charred Beef Ribs which I have to say was simply exquisite; I could have died and gone to heaven right then We also had the BBQ Cuban chicken with coconut sticky Rice and Guacamole; the sticky rice was flavorful and easy on the taste buds. Lastly, we had the coconut cake which was to die for, along with the sorbet of three different exotic flavors. Just imagine, all of this for $24.07… Now! That’s my kind of deal.

Below is a link which displays all of the restaurants that partake in Manhattan's Restaurant Week. Unfortunately, this all comes to an end tomorrow but you are still able to peruse the listing of restaurants and if you find something you like you can take advantage of this deal tomorrow.
Restaurant Week

If perhaps you’ve dined at a noteworthy restaurant lately, feel free to drop us a line or two… or even if you’ve had a bad experience… Kindly let us know the 411.

I hope that all of your dining experiences are as good as mine.

Enjoy

These Christian Louboutin For Ever Tina Suede Platform Boots
have alot going on, but I've gotta be honest, I'm feelin' them for the Fall/Winter season. On second thought, who am I kidding? I can already see myself busting my ass on a nice ice patch, and going down in a flurry of suede fringe. These, I'll just pine away for inside my heart. But, if I was one of those little dog carrying chicks how cute would This combo be?

Plastic Bags Are Passe.

Go green with reusable shopping bags from envirosax

You need to get with this. Plastic bags litter parks, pollute water ways, and pile up in landfills where they will take 1000 years to break down. They are also made from valuable, non-renewable resources, such as natural gas and oil. (HELLO!)
Several countries including Bangladesh and China have already banned plastic bags. Canada, is currently working towards a ban as well.
I've seen some stores giving away free re-usable bags, or you can do your part for the earth in style. Envirosax, is one of many companies offering a variety of colors and prints on their re-useable shopping bags. Plus, they roll up nicely, and fit into your handbag, so you can be ready to whip it out whenever an occasion arises that USED to call for plastic.

Slowly but surely, I am becoming a bit enamored with Alice and Olivia. Some of their pieces are soft and feminine and hugs your body in just the right places. Their prices can become a bit unbearable @ times, but anything worth having usually comes with a huge price tag. Nevertheless, I still find a way to purchase some of their pieces while kicking and screaming of course :) One of my favorite bargain sites is Shopbop

It is one of the best online sites where you can purchase designer clothing @ relatively comparable and affordable prices. Below you will find several items that are very cute for the summer. They are currently on sale and going for less than $100. Peruse the sale selection and see what else catches your eye or check out the “What’s New” section to see what new items they have available.

The blue dress is Alice and Olivia, the green shorts is DVF, the short set is KRITIK and the striped dress is Rachel Pally.

Could you lay in bed for 3 months STRAIGHT for $10/hour?

$17,000? And it's really 4 months of allowing your body to deteriorate? Not worth it!
But what if you were really, really, broke? Maybe? Read on..

It may not sound like much of a job — three consecutive months in bed — but NASA says the participants in its bed rest study are providing valuable information for the space program.

The test subjects are paid $10 per hour, or about $17,000 over the course of the study, which is carried out at the University of Texas, according to a report by MyFOXHouston.com. They spend three months lying down, and the preparation and rehabilitation take up another month.

MyFOXHouston.com reports that NASA's Flight Analog Research Unit is looking for ways to minimize the debilitating impact of zero gravity in space, which can cause reduction in muscle mass and bone density. One way to recreate those conditions on the ground is for test participants to lie down with head slightly tilted back for 90 days.

"It's very relaxing at times. This is probably the most I've sat still in 10 years," participant Heather Archuletta told MyFOXHouston.com.

They can shower, surf the Internet and watch DVDs, all while remaining in bed. Afterward, the rehabilitation phase is key to the study, because NASA tests ways of bringing their bodies back to normal.

"I just wanted to help out the space program keep astronauts more healthy so we can make it to Mars," said Archuletta, who updates an online blog from her test bed.

Is a "Booty Call" okay when you're having a Dry Spell? (Kamilah's Take)

* A couple of posts below, the lovely and talented Alicia gave her perspective on a dilemma that some people may have had encounters with.
This is my $00.2 on the matter.

Gee... 3 years, huh? I'd consider 1 year a dry spell, 3 is like the fucking Sahara. Or should I say like Antarctica, because it's so icy and frigid. LOL! I actually read an article in a reputable magazine ( I wish I could find it, maybe New York Magazine?) that claimed that if you didn't make use of your genitals, they would in fact, begin to shrivel and dry up. Deadass!
But I digress, what one does, or preferably two do, in his/her/their bedroom as consenting adults is their business. I personally do not advocate casual sexual activity amongst those I know, the safety of your vaginal and mental health is at stake, and "the D" might make you stab somebody. But, lust is lust I suppose, and some people must act on their urges.

There are larger issues to tackle here though, your friend should do some serious self reflection to figure out what it is that she really wants. For someone who has had the discipline to undergo three years of self imposed celibacy, I can't imagine that just sex would be enough. What about intimacy and companionship? Will sex be enough when she doesn't get so much as a phone call come Valentines day? When she needs help with something and he refuses, but feels comfortable to call her late night, when he has needs? Will it be enough if she develops feelings for this man, but he's already filed her into his jumpoff category, likely eliminating herself as girlfriend material for him? Yes, he may think of her as a ho, jumpoff or some variation on the word, it goes with that territory. But does it matter? She's already passed judgement on him. She thinks HE is not good enough, right? Besides we need ho's in the world. Somebody's got to mop the floor, somebody's got to be the ho. It makes the world go 'round.

The fact of the matter is, she may not really know if these men are "up to par". You have to give yourself time to get to know an individual before you make that judgement call. You can learn someones personality traits, but until she hits the bedroom, she will not know if the "workout" will be good, and it may very well be wack. So she should take her time.

Also, what is her definition of "up to par" and is it realistic? Furthermore, is SHE up to par? What does SHE have to offer? Does it match up to the standards she is expecting of her potential suitors?
I know that finding a partner who you can connect with is difficult. But that doesn't mean you jump out the window, and settle for even less than the original offer. "Like nah, you're not good enough to date me, but I trust you enough to put a part of your body inside of my body, and for that time, hold my life and future in your hands." This doesn't add up to me.

My advice to your friend would be: Keep your knees closed, but change your game plan. Think long and hard about the things that you can and cannot put up with from a man, and whether or not the values and goals of the men you date mesh well with your values and goals, that should be what indicates if he's up to par. She may need to change her hunting ground, where do you meet these men? I hope it's not the club, or the internet or anything gross like that. Ew.
Finally, no one likes to hear this, but she may also want work on herself. By being the best woman she can be, she may find herself attracting a different sort of man. And EVERYONE can improve themselves.
But if the "D" deficit is too great, do you. Be safe, and make wise choices about who you bestow your blessings upon. It should be VIP, a very exclusive p***y,  you choose what letters are hiding behind those asterisks.

"The People of Beautiful Hair"

Ojon hair products are said to be the ancient secrets of the Miskito Indians in Central America; also known as Tawira which translates to "the people of beautiful hair". Their hair care secret is Ojon; an oil that comes from the Ojon trees found in the Mosquitia rainforests.
Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment is one of my all time favorite hair treatments. It is ideal for ultra dry, color treated, damaged hair.
It can either be used before you wash or as a leave-in treatment depending on your personal hair needs. My hair is wavy/curly, frizzy, color treated not to mention the fact that I straighten it with my super hot Chi flat iron nearly every day! Yes - I know I am abusive to my poor hair - but most women are; and thats why we need intensive restorative treatment to reverse some of this damage! So what I do is saturate my hair with the Ojon oil [it is actually semi-solid but turns into oil when you rub it in your hands] and leave it in for at least an hour before washing my hair. Sometimes I will leave it in overnight if my hair really needs the help. My mom, whose hair is a lot coarser than mine, recently told me that she leaves it in her hair for a few minutes after washing her hair and then rinses it out. The result is stronger and shinier hair. Clinical studies show that using this product reduces breakage significantly as well.
Ojon has other amazing products for your hair and skin.

Song of the Moment

Here is a song I’m feeling @ the moment. I am not a huge fan of Lil Wayne’s however; I am currently in love with this track “Comfortable” off of his new album The Carter III. The song features Babyface, and in addition to me liking the track, I thought it would be a nice segue into my next topic. The song talks about not getting too comfortable in your relationships. The last post I did was about a friend of mine going through a dry spell. I am following it up with this to give women/men who are in a committed relationship a gentle reminder that even longstanding relationships need work.

The song pulls some of it’s inspiration from Beyonce’s hit song Irreplaceable. Although we thrive on believing that we are inimitable and matchless unfortunately, as HOV said “I try to pretend that I’m different but in the end were all the same” the latter holds true for all of us. I say this to relay that if you don’t stay on your job, and keep igniting the spark that initially brought you and your partner together then the flame is going to eventually die out. AND TRUST!, there is always a wingman/woman scheming trying to play ur position. Therefore, don’t take each other for granted, because you might end up realizing the importance of that person in your life when it’s too late. So here it is for your listening pleasure:

Comfortable by Lil Wayne feat. Babyface

Do Or Don't?

Like a hot guy with funky breath, sequins somehow attract and repel me simultaneously.
I'm looking, but I cant bring myself to buy. Are sequins a fashion do, or are they a don't?
L.A.M.B Houndstooth Mini Sequin Dress

Is a "Booty Call" okay when you're having a Dry Spell?

So, I have a friend that hasn't gotten "any" in about 3 years... No, I'm not kidding! Practically a born again virgin, right? :) It's not as if she doesn't want to... (Trust me she does in the worst possible way). It's just that the men that she becomes acquainted with aren't up to par. She's run into a few of them that although they aren't looking to settle down, they do have the potential to be of another use to her (like giving her a good Work Out. :) Although this idea is particularly appealing to her, she has trepidations about it because Casual Sex isn't something that she's ever tried out before or even considered for that matter. In hard times, things that you've never pondered start to become more enticing. One of her biggest obstacles is getting over the fact that people may view her as a Hoe (No, not the gardening tool).

Do you think that it's morally wrong to entertain a relationship where the sole purpose is to satisfy your sexual cravings? What happens when a decent man comes around that you feel may be relationship material, but you're having difficulty cutting this sexual relationship loose because you've become addicted to the D? What do you do then? Do you juggle both until the relationship with this new person becomes sexual, or do you go to Ricky's and stock up on every Sex Toy imaginable before ending the relationship with your lover?

Here's my Advice: GO FOR IT, have a clear understanding of what your getting yourself into. Don't expect the dynamics of the relationship to change, and for your partner to change his ways. Be realistic about all expectations. Agree that anyone can end the relationship at anytime. Lastly but most importantly "DON'T GET ATTACHED", Just because it's Good D, doesn't mean that it belongs to you and only you :)

What do you guys think? Should she or shouldn't she engage in such a relationship? ... Fellas if you're reading this, what terms would you want the woman to abide by? The end of this Drought depends on you folks...

In honor of this topic, I have decided to post this song... I find it only fitting.

High Voltage Makeup

I have to admit that I don't watch LA. Ink regularly, but it's so refreshing to see a fellow Latina doing her thing. Kat Von D was born in Mexico but her parents are originally from Argentina. She is a talented tatooist who has unique beauty and personal style; not to mention her makeup is always on point! Check out her new makeup line at Sephora."Makeup is only one of the many things that make me feel so privileged to be girl." - Kat Von D
Indeed!

Looks Like Liquid

As much as I love the way liquid liner looks [say that 10 times fast! LOL] I am absolutely terrible at getting a smooth line with it ... no matter how much I practice my tripod stance, legs spread and elbow leaning on whatever is available for support, I cannot for the life of me apply it without it looking like I had 1 too many cups of Starbucks :(

Of course a makeup fiend like myself can't let a shaky hand get me down... so I use Sue Devitt's Eye Intensifier Pencil. This liner is fool proof indeed. The consistency is creamy and it glides on perfectly smooth. The other side of the pencil has a cleverly angled felt tip that helps with that winged effect that I can never get right with liquid. I like to line my eye half way and then use this felt tip to drag the line into the inner corners of my eyes for that super thin/close to the lash line look. Their colors are great too, I use Kenya daily.

You can find this lovely liner at Barney's, but QVC has a great deal where you can get the liner plus the sharpener for $22.

Mom Approved!

Although I do cherish this easy time of my being baby free, year by year my inner soccer mom creeps ever closer to the surface of my being. So yes, at times, toasters may excite and titillate me, these are no exception. Don't front, they're kinda cool.

And I am definitely getting one of these. Fruity Pebbles = Ambrosia

The Select Few

What separates the wheat from the tares? Or in this case the Crème de la Crème amongst the commonplace individuals. True to our word, here’s a tip on how you can work on individualizing your style.

I concede that in a world where fashion is ever-changing, it is somewhat difficult to stay within and ahead of the fashion trends. I also happen to believe that having “Great Style” is of a greater value and of more importance than keeping up with Fashion Trends. Frankly, if you’re a person who shops within a budget it is ludicrous to constantly align yourself with the latest trend. So, this is what I propose.

If you aren’t sure what type of style you have or want to have then it would behoove you to find your niche. I know I know… sometimes it’s easier said than done. Well, I would suggest that you clear your schedule for the day. Go into one of your favorite stores and begin trying on different cuts/fits/lengths of clothing and see what looks best on you. If you are indecisive then bring a friend or ask the sales associates (they are there to assist you with more than just finding a different size) When that’s done, I would recommend that you rack up on basics. Those are the most important things to have when building your wardrobe. I’ve also read somewhere that when you find a basic that you absolutely love, you should consider buying two of the same pieces. This way you’ll have it for a long time. It’s worked for me. So now that you have your basics you gradually build your style… by either using the same technique you used for finding your basics. Or just by reading magazines, watching television, and constantly checking out our site to get information on what works for you. Whether it is finding people with the same body type as you and seeing what works for them or just picking up a great pointer and asking tons of questions. I’ve found that classic pieces always work wonders, like the traditional white colored shirt and black pencil skirt. There are several variations to this look. Take a Peak.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this Quick Tip session, leave a comment if you have any queries.

We are blessed in order to be a Blessing to others!

Neutrogena Pore Refining Cream

Neutrogena makes some great products, and this is one of my faves. I'm sure the Alpha Hydroxy Acids have something to do with it, products with AHA's always clear and smooth my skin beautifully. This is the only facial moisturizer I've ever been faithful to.

Check 'em out.

Wet n Wild

I haven't used an eyeshadow base in years and my shadow still stays on all day sans creasing ... I believe that it's b/c I use wet shadow as a base and then use dry shadow to set it. Loose eyeshadow like Make Up Forever STAR POWDER - Iridescent Powder and B.E.'s glimmer shadows are ideal for this technique. What I like to do is dip my eyeshadow brush into the loose eyeshadow and tap it into the lid, then I run the tip of my eyeshadow brush under water for less then a second to dampen the brush. I swirl the brush in the lid and continue to add water until there is a pasty consistency. Then you apply the shadow as if you are painting it onto your lid. The resulting color will be vibrant, high shine, and mega glamorous! If you find this to be too va-va-voom, you can then take your dry shadow [and a different eyeshadow brush that's also dry] and apply it over this layer and just blend and buff to tone it down a bit... But if you are anything like me you will love the look of intense illumination that this trick gives!
Try it and let me know how it works out for ya!
;)
Good afternoon darlings,

I would have said ladies, but I've learned that our readers are not women alone as indicated by my first comment ever - yay! :)

Anyhoo, I will keep this short b/c its really nice out and I have to fix my wig before I head out to this BBQ....

So I just got back from the nail salon and while waiting for my nails to dry I was reading one of my favorite mags InStyle. I came across a great tip for giving the illusion of thicker fuller hair. Go to your hairstylist/colorist and ask them to color the bottom half of your hair a darker shade than that of the top section of your hair. This will give your hair depth and the illusion of thicker healthier hair. As I type this I recall Alicia saying that she colors the crown of her hair a lighter color than the rest of her hair .... boy I tell you, that girl is wise beyond her years!

Happy Saturday!

Star Magazine reports that Diddy has made a foolish ass mistake by asking Cassie to marry him. Exactly how much in alimony and child support would you like to pay each month, sir?

Sean "Diddy" Combs is giving marriage a chance.

The bachelor father of six is quietly telling close friends and family that he and singer Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura are heading to the chapel.

"He told everyone to keep it extremely quiet because he didn't want it to get out, but you could tell he was excited," says a source. "Diddy said they hadn't set a date yet, but he wanted his family to hear the news first."

Diddy revealed his engagement to the Connecticut native at his son Justin's eighth-grade graduation ceremony in Riverdale, N.Y., on June 5. The hip-hop megastar met 17-years-younger Cassie after signing her up to his label, Bad Boy Records, in 2006.

Now, I do not believe for 1 second that this is true, but imagine if it was.  Kim Porter is certainly of a different temperament than myself. She may be a better, kinder, person than myself, because homeboy would have been got his wig pushed back, knameen? Are the twins they just had even a year old yet? Oh so you were... while I was pregnant?...no, no ,no. Consequences and repercussions my brother, consequences, and repercussions.

Tryna Maintain!

Generally, when a woman is called "high maintenance", it has a negative connotation, and while the term might suggest that a woman is needy, frivolous, superficial, etc. it may also mean that she knows just how to put herself together. Now I understand that this may not be important to some, but as a woman who always tries to be presentable, I am not sure this is so bad. There is a definite correlation between looking good and feeling good. While reading Memoirs of Bernardo Vega for homework I came across a passage that I found particularly relevant; and being the makeup obbssessed woman that I am; I of course I had to apply it to my thoughts on not only beauty and makeup, but on feeling ones best.
:)

He writes: "Nothing is less likely to bring about a change of fortune than wearing misery on your face. Which is why I made a habit of dressing that much better the worse off I was financially." Now while he was referring to financial misfortune, the same concept applies to other aspects of life. When you are having one of your "ugly days" [and we all have them] - those are the days to turn it up a notch. Do your makeup extra special, or wear a bangin outfit. It will surely boost your spirits and attract positivity your way; and why not take it to the next level and look your best everyday? It's not about being "high maintenance", it's about feeling good about yourself and presenting the best YOU there is every time you step out into the world. For me that means a full face of makeup everyday - LOL .... so does that make me high maintenance...

MCC's new LP ...

... and I don't mean album - Mariah's new fragrance Luscious Pink debuts in department stores in early August! I haven't smelled it yet - but I did LOVE her first scent... can't wait to try it!

OK, so these things are FLYING off of HSN. I didn't know anything about HSN until recently, when my mother-in-law put me on. Apparently they have quality control standards that meet, if not exceed, those of most department stores. So their products are no bull, and if you don't like 'em, neither are their return policies.

I have struggled with breakouts since I can remember and always relied on heavy liquid foundation to even out my skin tone and hide blemishes. My first experience with B.E. was awkward; I buffed and buffed and still felt naked. No matter how much I put on, it still felt ....well - BARE!
To my surprise I was complimented on my skin at every turn. Now I still get breakouts don't get me wrong, but not nearly as often or as bad. Every now and then I step outside of my relationship with B.E. but I always come running back because although B.E. can seem messy and have a lot of steps; it is the only foundation that makes my skin look good without clogging my pores or looking cakey.
If you have had trouble matching your skin tone with B.E. in the past, try again because they have added more shades!

Legs of a Goddess

What is it about a nice pair of legs that makes men go wild? Is it the soft luscious looking texture, the well toned structure, the length, a great pair of heels, or the unforgettable glow? Well after polling 20 gents I have found that it’s all of the above however, the latter takes the cake.

As summer gets into full swing, we ladies need to make sure that our leg game is on point. The following item is a great product that helps to accentuate the gifts that you have already been given.

It is the Super Stars - Super Sheen Bronzing Mist by Sephora.

This mist gives you a glow like you won’t believe, and for those of us that enjoy looking as if we’ve just stepped off the beach it’s just the thing for you. Its original price was $18 dollars but it is currently going for $12. So if you have nothing against, Vitamin E, Nut-Oils, Aloe Vera Gel, and the scent of coconut I’d suggest you check this out.

In respect to all the other factors, I’m not a miracle worker but I can recommend a great place to get a Tennis Racket or a great park to jog if you’re also looking to tone your legs. In terms of products this is one of the best I can recommend.

You better work it girls.

Custom Candy Paint

Have you ever had an idea for the perfect shade of lip gloss, but you just can't seem to find your fantasy color in reality? Either the color is off, or they have big stripper- glitter flakes, and they can never be shiny enough, can they?

Well Prescriptives can make your gloss dreams come true! At the Prescriptives counter in Bergdorf Goodman, a salesperson will squeeze various tubes into a vat and churn that lipgloss up like butter while you wait. You may test as you go, and ask them to fine tune your gloss until you find what you're looking for, right down to the flavor. At $26.00, they're pricier than your average gloss, but worth it to get your mitts on that elusive shade. And when someone asks you where they can buy that fantastic gloss you're wearing, toss that hair, flash that smile, and say "sorry, you can't, its custom."

Ugh... You're such a snob. And I love it!

Note: This Service not available at all prescriptives counters.
Well, research that ish.
