Jay-Z & Gucci Scavenger Hunt?!

Though his lyrics may often confound, when it comes to Jay-Z’s love of high fashion, there is little confusion. And one of his most beloved brands, Gucci (sample lyric: “Yellow wrist watch, Gucci flip flops, six top model chicks, who is this hot?”), is returning the sentiment by playing a key part in Bing’s elaborate introduction to Jay-Z’s new book, Decoded. Pages of the tome, which reveal hidden meanings behind the rapper’s lyrics, are being exposed at landmark locations all over the world. And today, Gucci’s 5th Avenue location in N.Y.C. will unveil a page from the book on the inside of a one-of-a-kind leather bomber designed by Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini. Fans who locate the jacket at the N.Y.C. Gucci flagship will be given a specialized code to upload an image from Decoded, which will automatically enter them into a drawing to win an autographed copy and other prizes. For clues to where the Decoded pages will be displayed next, visit Jay-Z’s Facebook, Twitter page, Jay-Z.com and Bing.

Not only do I love a scavenger hunt, but how cool is this jacket?! It sounds as though it's a one of one, created exclusively for the game, so I guess there's no buying it. But I sure would love one in my size!

MTV Europe Music Awards 2010

Reviewing the pictures from MTV's Europe Music Awards I felt like I was looking at footage from the worlds worst outfits awards. It was really a worse and worser situation, as you can see by the foolishness that Ke$ha and Katy Perry showed up wearing.

Need I say more?
There were some bright spots in the fashion landscape though, see below for my personal faves.

Rihanna looking amazing in a Marchesa gown. When does a Marchesa gown not look amazing right? But this one really takes the eye away from her Wilma Flintstone hair-don't.
In all seriousness, she looks great.

And surprise! Check out Miley Cyrus in Dolce and Gabbana.
I never expected fabness to come from her sector, but I love that she proved me wrong! The outfit is an awesome mix of elegance and cool, so even though she's covered up, it doesn't come off as old looking. I hope more young stars follow her lead. You don't have to show everyone your breasts just to prove you have them! Showing this level of taste and style makes me think of her as far more mature than any skintight catsuit ever could.

Banned In The USA?

Kanye West stirs up controversy once again, as the cover art for his new album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is released.

Although West has been making a fuss via twitter, it seems that in reality the cover was not so much "banned" as it is being frowned upon. West's record label Universal Music Group’s Island Def Jam, has been strongly urging him to consider using a different cover amidst concerns that family oriented retailers such as Wal-Mart will refuse to carry the album as is.

Understandable from any company that their first priority would be their bottom line. Allegedly he was told that if he refused to change the cover art, his label would ultimately stand behind him.

So in this age of digital downloads is Wal-Mart really that serious? Kanye doesn't seem to think so, he tweeted: "In all honesty ... I really don't be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers #Kanyeshrug!,"

Personally, I'm not in love with this cover myself. #Kamilahshrug
What am I really looking at here? An angel with the face of a beast and the tail of a dalmatian? Dude drinking a 40 while smashing some chick on a couch? Two people with truly unfortunate dental situations?
I know it's supposed to be seen as ART, and it's certainly bold and attention grabbing, but it just seems kind of empty to me.

Kanye West Performs "Power" Live on SNL

I honestly think this is one of the most amazing and creative live performances I've ever seen. The beauty and strength is in its simplicity, sometimes a laser light show is not what you need to inspire emotion in your audience. Kudos to Mr. West for sending chills down my spine.

Who The Heck Is Lady Gaga?

Christina Aguilera

Lady Gaga

Christina Aguilera

Lady Gaga

I've been hearing the name for a few months now, probably since Aug/Sep whenever the MTV awards were. Christina Aguilera did her thing on the "Genie In A Bottle 2.0" performance, but all you heard about the next day was how much of her new look she stole from Lady Gaga. Personally, I hate that look. That blunt bang on a platinum blond just rubs me the wrong way, so as far as I was concerned if she had stolen the look she should hurry up and give that shit back, ASAP!

Judging from the pictures above there may be some truth to that story. However, I'm a firm believer that there is very little new under the sun. Everything was influenced by something else, and there is nothing wrong with that. Ideally, artists would sprinkle a touch of originality and ingenuity on their work, but kids today think originality is some kind of plague or ancient torture device. Either that, or Xerox is the new original, I don't know.

Anyway, now this Lady Gaga person has hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her song "Just Dance" and I still don't know who she is! The top 5 includes Beyonce, T.I. feat Rihanna, Kanye, Britney...and this Lady Gaga is hanging with the big boys!

I'm going to listen to her song now, then we "Cawfee Tawk"

*sigh* Good news first: Under the auto-tune she sounds like she may have a very nice voice.
Bad news: I couldn't even get through the song, it was just weak. This particular tune, I'm sure will not grow on me, because I didn't like HER. She actually reminds me more of an Aubrey O'Day type...her moves and lyrics just say skeezer to me. Why would I want to go out and dance to a song about being a drunk yamp.
Sorry Lady Gaga, thumbs down.

Michael Jackson Gravely Ill.

Michael Jackson is ailing from a rare lung condition and needs to undergo a transplant, according to the author of a new biography on the King of Pop.

Author Ian Halperin said Jackson, 50, suffers from Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that can be fatal.

"He’s had it for years, but it’s gotten worse," Halperin said in an interview with In Touch magazine. "He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It’s the bleeding that is the most problematic part. It could kill him."

Halperin also said Jackson "can barely speak" and is having trouble seeing: "The vision in his left eye is 95 percent gone."

Jackson’s spokesman was unavailable for comment.

-Newsday

This sounds pretty bad...
As strange (eccentric) as M.J. might be, he's still the King. The man shaped pop music as it is today, you cant deny him. If you're in your 20's or 30's you probably wanted to grow up to be him at some point.
Lets all send Michael our mental well wishes, think of him while you enjoy what he's brought to your life through song.

Michael Jackson - The Way You Make Me Feel

Michael Jackson - Keep It In The Closet

Dont front like this isnt some of the BADDEST shit youve EVER seen!

* UPDATE: Jackson's official spokesperson has confirmed this story was a bogus attempt to publicize this "biographers" book. I'm glad M.J. is OK, but I dont appreciate my emotions being played with!

Tragedy

I was browsing Crunk + Disorderly when I came across this ancient relic. Have any of you seen this clip of Ne-Yo performing with his boy band on Apollo's Amateur Night?
Let me let you know up front, the only thing sadder and more pathetic than this video, are the lyrics to Cassie's "Official Girl". Prepare to have your ears assaulted.
But before we even get to the singing, does anyone notice something about Ne-Yo's speaking voice? I mean, I know he just says his name, but...

Australia - Movie Review

Huge Moulin Rouge fan that I am, when Baz Luhrmann decided to team up with Nicole Kidman again for Australia, I thought I would have another movie to add to my favorites list.
Unfortunately, not so much.

Alicia was good enough to humor me, and sit through this long ass piece of work, and I think she would co-sign my review...
While the movie was not terrible, it was not entertaining enough to warrant it's 3 hour run time. A lot of subject matter was covered in those 3 hours, and while some of those themes were interesting, the treatment of Aborigine and "half-caste" people in Australia for example, much of it was not.
An entire 1:30 is dedicated to cattle droving! That's like full length film...about bulls...yeah...
The cattle droving certainly has a place in the film, but it's a lot to sit through waiting for something to happen.

I guess I was most disappointed because I've grown accustomed to a certain style of film from Luhrmann, his movies are majestic, love stories of a bygone era with a post-modern adrenaline shot. Australia had it's moments, but overall it just lacked that movie magic.

Here are 2 of my fave scenes from Baz Luhrmann films to make us all feel better.

Moulin Rouge - El Tango De Roxanne

William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet - "Kissing You" Scene
Remember last year when Beyonce got sued for the use of this song? Des'ree told her to leave it alone, but she just wouldn't...

Ciara Featuring The Dream - Keep Dancing

Hit snooze.

Jay-Z Featuring Santogold - Brooklyn (Go Hard)

Jay-Z song produced by Kanye West of the soundtrack to the upcoming film Notorious.

I can't stop listening to this song. I LOVE this song. I need to go out with my all bad chick crew (No boys allowed, and they can't stand near our table either. Scram!), buy some champagne, and pop a bottle to this song ASAP!
Are you ready?
