Dylan's Candy Bar introduces Re-Treat.

Like Carrie Bradshaw, shopping may be my cardio. But when I got to Bloomingdales any calories I may have lost come right back to me, because I cant help going across the street to Dylan's Candy Bar.
Dylan Lauren (Daughter of Ralph) has built her own Willy Wonka like sweet emporium and when there's a chill in the air her "Central Park Zoo Hot Chocolate" is irresistible. mmm...animal crackers.
Anyways, Dylan may have finally taken pity on my waistline because she has introduced a line of bath and body products based on the delicious sweets carried at her stores.
I know there are a ton of food and candy smelling bath products out already, but the claim is that these are made with top-of-the-line ingredients and that the fragrances are not synthetic smelling. You know when your strawberry lotion smells more like a bottle of Vicks 44 cough and cold? Well this line is not supposed to be that way. It's being sold at Sephora so check it out either in stores or buy it online

Clinique Happy To Go Perfume Pencils

Clinique has just come out with these cool little perfume pencils based around their Classic fragrance, Clinique Happy. They come in a set designed for layering, so you can mix and match 1,2, or all 3 depending on your mood. I was never a fan of Happy, I'm a complete snob when it comes to perfume. Yes, this has mixed results, but always unique, so it's rare that I would want any perfume sold at a Macy's. However this idea is so cute, and so convenient for travel, that I might be tempted to grab a set. It would also be a great gift for the holidays.

"That Guy From Roswell"

The other day I was pleasantly surprised to learn that one of the coolest girls I know comes by to visit us here at SGHI from time to time. So Colleen, this one's for you!
Back in school days, Colleen and I totally thought the guy from Roswell was sooooo cute! Our "thang" for Brendan Fehr was probably due more to his character's bad-boy-with-a-tender-heart persona than anything else. Oh yes, we are those special girls who can tame, train and mold naughty men! Even at 15.
If you were a fan of Roswell, or if you're just curious to see the storyline that set our young hearts a flutter, you can watch Roswell from the first episode. Just click here

Looking at him now he resembles Andy Samberg from SNL, who is kinda cute just cause he's funny. Personality goes a long way...

Loreal Elnett

The contents within this bottle have been the "Gold Standard" of the biggest names in hairstyling for decades.
According to a who's who of hair experts this is like the best hairspray ever.
Unfortunately, due to one pesky little chemical not approved for use in the U.S. Loreal Elnett has been extremely hard to come by for American women.
But now, with a slight reformulation, it is finally available in the U.S., and this fabulous hairspray is being exclusively sold at....TARGET! Yeah, so go get you some it's recession proof baby! Actually, at $13.99 it's not the cheapest hairspray ever. but it's do-able, right?

Just because theyre having a damn good showing this season. Bravo!
Can you tell I like to wear black? :)

Tom Ford - Hawkings Sunglasses

Two pairs of fabulous aviators are always better than one- especially when they're designed by Tom Ford. Use the rimless colored lenses for classic aviator style or the plastic-rimmed tinted lenses for a wildly creative take on the original. Gold metal edging and a gold-trimmed cutout on the bridge add rock star flash to both versions.

>Black or Rose Gold Havana plastic frames
>Gold metal edging with gold-trimmed cutout on bridge
>Interchangeable lenses create dramatically different looks; one pair of colored rimless lenses and one pair of plastic-rimmed tinted lenses
>Comfortable nosepieces
>Tom Ford logo plate inlaid on both ends (front and back)
>Tom Ford logo etched on top left-hand side of frame
>100% UV/UVB protection
>Made in Italy

Buy them @ Eluxury.com

Who doesn't like 2 for 1 deals? I know I do! While I don't think the "2 looks" are as dramatically different as Tom Ford might have you believe, they really may not need to be, when they're sitting front and center on your face.
I mean, if you like them anyway, where's the bad?

SGHI ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT

SGHI ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT.

If you've checked in with us at SGHI regularly, then you can tell from some of our posts that we are a left leaning group when it comes to politics. The three of us made up our minds long ago regarding the candidate we would be voting for come Nov. 4th 2008, and we have avidly watched the debates and speeches in order to keep abreast of new developments and ensure that our decisions were right and well informed.
We have tried to keep our readers as informed, without swaying you to choose one candidate or the other. It is so important for each person to educate themselves on the facts and choose accordingly. But with only a week left until election day, we felt it important to state officially that all 3 members of SGHI will be voting for Barack Obama, and give you some of the reasons why we support him.

We believe that Barack Obama's plan to change the future of America is a solid one, and that he has the vision and leadership to move us as a nation in a better and stronger direction. The opportunity to vote for him is our nations greatness at our fingertips, and when the day comes we will be a part of that movement.

We stand firmly behind Obama's Blueprint for change.

We believe that everyone should have affordable health care.

We believe that everyone should be able to afford higher education. Under Obamas administration a $4000 credit for college tuition will be given for 100 hours public service. He also supports public college being free to students with a "B" average or higher.

We believe in safely ending a war which has done nothing to benefit Americans, is a drain on our weakened economy, and has claimed more lives than the incident which allegedly sparked said war in the first place.

We believe in every woman's right to choose. A life is a precious gift, but a child should be wanted and given all the love and care an able parent can provide.

We believe in protecting our world now for a healthier tomorrow. Educating Americans on recycling, reducing carbon emissions, developing alternative fuels, and renewable energy sources.

We believe that Americas image can be restored as that of a leader in the World with the right person in charge. America needs an intelligent and diplomatic leader, not a Joe Six Pack.

Barack Obama has managed to electrify a nation that has long been jaded by its government. Never in our lifetime have we seen such excitement in politics, such a fervor for knowledge from those who never believed that the leaders of their country had the peoples best interest in mind. It is an incredible and historic time we live in, one that many never got to see, and that some never thought they would.

Barack Obama is not a savior, and the President does not act autonomously. We understand that some feel the President is just a figurehead, and that nothing will change should Obama become elected, but now is your chance to find out. Let's see what one good person can do to sway us, as a nation, in the right direction. Lets find out what CHANGE is all about by electing someone different from the 43 Presidents who came before him.

We want to be a part of this moment we can tell our children about someday, and when we send those children out into the world with the promise that they can be anything they want to be, we need for that promise to finally be true.
We hope you feel the same way, and that you will be standing in line with us at the polls on Nov. 4th to welcome a new era.

Wishing you the best in Life, Liberty and The Pursuit Of Happiness

-SGHI

Dolce and Gabbana Corset Trench Coat.

Dearest Reader,
Just so we're clear, I would crawl over your dead body to get my hands on that trench. Please know that that coat is a detriment to the safety of mankind.

It's All About Balance.

Allegra Versace looking painfully thin at Fashion Group's 25th Annual Night of Stars.

The 22 year old daughter of Donatella Versace was bequeathed 50% of the Versace fashion empire upon the death of her uncle Gianni Versace in 1997. She inherited approximately half a billion dollars on her 18Th birthday, and she has final say in the sale of Versace clothing line.
Allegra has been battling eating disorders for years.

Allegra's problem, though serious, is a rarity compared to the flip side of that coin, obesity.
Being severely overweight brings with it a host of physical, mental, and emotional problems.
The blame for this problem can be split several ways.

The American government, specifically the FDA, does have a hand in your weight issues.
The same hormones that are pumped into our livestock to make bigger chickens and cows, is being ingested by you, and making you bigger.
If you were told that it's OK to feed babies "formula" which in some cases is 50% sugars, rather than breast milk which boosts children's immune systems, know that you are priming your child for a lifetime of obesity and unhealthiness.
A young woman I know, who recently moved here from Canada(Hey Sara!) mentioned to me that there is high fructose corn syrup in American Heinz ketchup, and while they do have Heinz ketchup in Canada, it does not contain high fructose corn syrup.
I did some research, and this is true. Heinz ketchup in Canada does contain sugar (real Sugar), the American version contains lots of cheaper, easier to produce, and far more dangerous to your health high fructose corn syrup.
Sara mused that maybe, because health care is free in Canada, they really can't afford for their citizens to be so unhealthy. So it is in the best interest of the Canadian government to keep the food as healthy as possible.
Imagine how many other "harmless" foods, are in fact unnecessarily unhealthy?

Some of the blame for obesity falls on culture, things you may have heard growing up can still have a strong root in your psyche. How many times have your parents told you to lick your plate clean, because someone, somewhere is starving? We know there are far more productive ways of helping the hungry.
How many times have your friends told you that "You need meat on your bones." Allegra needs meat on her bones, it is very likely that you don't.

But there are ways to find out for sure. Because the largest share of the blame for being unhealthy is on you. This means that you also have the biggest hand in being able to do something pro-active about it. Check out this website to figure out if you are at a healthy weight for your height and age. The general standard that a doctor will give women is 5lbs for every inch they are over 5 feet, meaning a 5'5 woman should weigh around 125. Keep in mind that everyones body type is different, so don't force your weight up or down based on an arbitrary number. Use the BMI Index to make sure that you do not fall into the weight range of being over or underweight. It's a guideline to get and keep you on track.

No matter what size you are, exercise and healthy eating habits are important. Portion control is key, try putting less food on your plate. Or if you like the look of a full plate, use a salad or dessert plate instead of a dinner plate. Do your research, if the food generally available is not up to par, you may choose to start eating organic food. Most importantly always keep your body moving, one of my girlfriends and I still have cartwheel contests, and I hope to be able to pass that tradition along to our daughters.

Inspiration: “A woman whom Providence has provided with beauty of spirit and body is a truth, at the same time both open and secret, which we can understand only by love, and touch only by virtue.”

Waiting For November 4th.

The anxiety attributed to the outcome of this years Presidential election is going to necessitate a new section in the DSM IV. I know I could be a case study.

Apparently, I'm in fine company. The invariably funny Larry David wrote an article for HuffPost on his Pre-Election jitters.

Larry David: Waiting for Nov. 4th

2 Relatives Of Jennifer Hudson Slain. 7 Yr Old Nephew Missing.

The mother and brother of the Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death inside her mother’s house on the South Side of Chicago on Friday afternoon, and the police were said to be looking for her 7-year-old nephew.

The police confirmed that Ms. Hudson’s mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, 57, was one of the victims, the ABC affiliate WLS reported on its Web site. A neighbor reportedly told the entertainment Web site TMZ that the other victim had been identified as Ms. Hudson’s brother, Jason S. Hudson, 29.

The police said they were searching for Ms. Hudson’s nephew, Julian King, who had been reported missing on Friday morning.

According to TMZ, the police were searching for a man identified as William Balfour, the husband of Ms. Hudson’s sister, Julia, who they said could be with the missing boy 7-year-old. Mr. Balfour reportedly listed the address of Ms. Hudson’s mother in the Englewood neighborhood as his place of residence within the last year. The Web site also reported that according to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Mr. Balfour is on parole after serving time in prison for attempted murder.

WLS reported that neighbors told the police they heard shots fired on Friday morning.

But it was not until Friday afternoon that a family member found Ms. Donerson in the living room and left the house to call the police, the television station reported. When they arrived at the house, they found Mr. Hudson in a bedroom.

The police said that there was no sign of forced entry at the house, and that the shootings were the result of a domestic dispute.

-NY Times

Our condolences go out to Jennifer Hudson and her family. Such a senseless tragedy, only compounded by the fact that the perpetrator is someone loved and trusted. We pray that little Julian King is returned home safely, and that the man who committed these atrocities is brought to justice swiftly.

Tomorrow is not promised. Love those dear to your heart in the best way you can, while you can.

Match Your Panties And Your Bra.

It's that time again!
I know it's hard, but I beseech you, you really must part ways with your wretched, raggedy, holey, granny panties.

Yeah, Yeah, nobody's gonna see them anyway. Or, your man sees them, but he doesn't care.(sometimes he does) None of that matters, do it for you!
You wouldn't go out with holes in your shirt right? Your undergarments are even more important, because they're right next to your preciuos bits.

So check these out these pieces from Courtworth Paris, I'm certainly not suggesting French lingerie everyday, but every lady should have a few un-ladylike pieces in her arsenal.

When Bird Bi*ch Is A Compliment.

Late last summer, every Pop-Diva in training and they grandmama was spotted strolling around in the Feather Plume Vest by Elizabeth and James.

Exhibit A:

I didn't pay the trend any mind, I thought it was pretty gross looking in fact. But, Elizabeth and James has got my attention now! Behold, the Elizabeth and James Feather Plume Skirt!

@ Shopbop

Goodness Gracious, these skirts are AWESOME! Can you get more showstopping? I was JUST talking about how I need to get more serious considering the recession we're in, but come on...one more splurge... :(

Blank Stirrup Jeans

I adore lightweight jeans! As much as I love clothes and shoes, nothing feels as good as wearing, well...nothing! So when I find a pair of jeans that look like I needed pliers to get em on, but feel like I'm wearing pajamas, I will likely buy them in every color.
We ladies know how difficult it is to get the right jean. Trying them on is a must! But these super stretchy, lightweight jeans look like an A+ contender for the perfect boot jeans. How convenient is that stirrup?! Think of how much headache that would save when youre wearing your tall boots. $95.00 isnt a bad price either...
Don't miss these sexys at intermix.com

Feeling Romantic?

Have I ever mentioned that I love youtube. It makes everything so accessible and it's just a great tool for research. One of my favorite songs of all time is "I Crave" by Marc Dorsey. That song is the BOMB...

Anyway, as I was getting my weekly slow-jam session on, when I came across a great video portrayal of the song. It's compiled of clips of Evangeline and Christian of One Life to Live. For those of you who watch that soap opera... it's a great piece to reminisce on.

I think the person who designed this video did a fantastic job... Maybe some current artists should take some notes. What do you guys think?

Lookey, Lookey... I guess she does know how to accessorize!

I am not a fan of Golden Brooks. Other than her stint on Girlfriends, there have been nothing else that I can tolerate about her until now.

Not one known to Rock the red carpet, as a matter of fact she usually ends up on the worst dressed list or most disheveled looking list. I can now confirm that she has been taught the rules of accessorizing and it has worked in her favor. So, discard those first 2 pics and feast ur eyes on her winning piece.

Now if that man is not a winning accessory then I don't know what is.

What the Fudge?

Yikes! This has got to be the ugliest outfit that I have ever seen Sarah Jessica Parker in. I am not so offended by the dress and bolero it is the tights/stalkings and fugly shoes that have insulted me.

What do you guys think of this get-up? Should she have consulted Carrie on this one b4 wearing?

Mama Needs Some Brand New Choos!

As far as shoe designers go, Jimmy Choo has never really done it for me. I dont have a single Jimmy in my collection. But they are really trying to wear me down this season, those blue joints are calling my name!

Scoop all of these bad boys up at Bloomies

Labels or Designers? Which of the two draws you in to spend the big bucks?

Last week, I was perusing the racks in the alice & olivia store on 40th street between 5th and 6th. I found a few lovely dresses and tops and as I was making my way to the dressing room to try them on, the sales person stopped me and offered to take my things to a room. I happened to look down @ her booties and thought that they looked rather cute and comfortable and that they complemented her outfit well. I of course asked where she bought them and she told me that they were designed by Stacey Bendet who is the designer for alice & olivia. I immediately turned around to see if there was another section of the store that I had overlooked and the sales person just smiled and said "you aren't going to find them here, because we don't sell shoes; not yet @ least."

Needless, to say I was confused. Finally she stopped her incessant laughter and told me that I could get a pair for only $48 dollars @ a place that I wouldn't guess.

PAYLESS

I was floored! I know that many stores have been soliciting the help of established designers to come in and revamp their line or to design an additional line for them to increase sales and bring variety. Like H & M, and Target, it seems that Payless has jumped on the band wagon.

Stacey Bendet's designs were released in about 400 payless stores, and you can also find her designs online @ the payless website.

Here is a look @ some of the designs and a picture of Stacey herself donning a pair.

Click on all pics to Enlarge

I like the grey ones, they are the ones that the sales attendant was wearing. Would any of you buy a pair? Or, is the purpose of purchasing designer labels a way to separate the elite from the working/lower class; and to obtain bragging rights? If that's the case then, IMO that's ridiculous... one should buy shoes because they like/love them not because of the label. I understand that certain labels you can trust in terms of fit and a guaranteed long lasting effect, but you have to try something once to know that you don't like it,right?

Remember, it's a recession y'all, you better act like you know :)

Greetings. Chanel Touches Down In Central Park 10/20.

A rectangular patch of sand in Central Park may be the last place you’d expect to find a gleaming “Star Trek”-style spacecraft. But an art pavilion that resembles just that will make a temporary landing there this fall.

The art pavilion will occupy Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield from Oct. 20 to Nov. 9.

Called Mobile Art, the structure itself was designed by the renowned London architect Zaha Hadid and will occupy the Rumsey Playfield, midpark at 70th Street, from Oct. 20 to Nov. 9. (It is Ms. Hadid’s first New York building, albeit temporary, and has already made stops in Hong Kong and Tokyo and is headed later for London, Moscow and Paris.)

Yet beyond its artistic mission, the pavilion is a provocative advertisement. Chanel, the fashion brand, commissioned Ms. Hadid to create the traveling structure to house works by about 15 hot contemporary artists. Each was asked to create a work that was at least in part inspired by Chanel’s classic 2.55 quilted-style chain handbag, so named because it was first issued in February 1955.

Admission to the exhibition in Central Park will be free, although visitors are advised to book timed tickets at chanel-mobileart.com.
