Comme des Garcons is the latest in a string of high end designers to create a collection for H&M. Seasons past have brought Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and more to make wildly popular pieces for the Swedish clothing company. These collections are highly coveted, sell out extremely fast, and they are, in my opinion, consistently awful. The Comme des Garcons line looks like the perfect wardrobe for when you decide to become a hobo. Just grab your banjo and hop a freight train to greener pastures. Don't even look at me though, I'm not giving you a quarter.
I would think at least 1 reason that a celebrated design house decides to collaborate with a store like H&M is because they sincerely want to bring their aesthetic to more affordable clothing. But from what I've seen it's never the same. Take these pieces from the Comme des Garcons Fall 2008 show.
Yeah... they're runway, so they're weird as hell, I know. But aren't they infinitely more interesting than the H&M stuff? Don't they make you go "Hmm, how could I work this?" Whereas the H&M stuff just makes me say "Ew, Yuckola."
I'm not the biggest H&M fan anyway, whenever I'm in there I just feel like I'm staring at rows and rows of oatmeal and it makes me so sleepy. They're great for underwear though.
